The proposed Pelzvale Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW) entails the construction of a 60ML treatment works and will be constructed in phases, the first phase will accommodate for 20ML, thereafter the WWTW will be expanded by 20ML as the demand in the area increases.
The WWTW infrastructure will include the following components:
- Screening and De-gritting
- Primary Settling Tanks
- Balancing Tank
- Flow Division Structure
- BNR Activated Sludge Configuration/ Reactors (3x 20ML)
- 2 Clarifiers (Clarification)
- Chlorine Contact Tank (Disinfection)
- Maturation Dam
- Outfall sewer line for the discharge
- Administrative Building with ablution facilities
- Access road and internal roads
- Organic matter/ fertiliser storage area
- Fencing and security guards
- Bulk electricity supply
- Storm water management system
The proposed project site is situated on the Remainder of Portion 1 and Portion 52 of the farm Gemspost 288 IQ, which is approximately 648ha in extent but only 28.8ha will be used for the actual footprint.
Notice is given, in terms of Section 24(G) read together with sections 24(F) of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998 that Rand West City Local Municipality is considering applying for authorisation in terms of Sections 24(G) and 24(F) of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998; for the unlawful commencement (site clearance) of the Pelzvale Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW) and construction of the access road. The application will be lodged with the Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment (GDARDE). A requirement of the application process is the pre-application public participation process.
All Interested and Affected Parties are invited to participate in the pre-application public participation process by registering as an interested party and submitting comments on the Draft Application and Section 24G Report.
All registrations and comments must be submitted by 31 January 2026.
